But what does it mean for someone to speak “their truth”?

Perhaps it’s time to reassess how we use this idiom, given it can be easily misread as endorsing an elusive view of what it takes for a claim to be true.

As you well know, philosophers call this view “truth relativism.” It says that when someone makes an assertion, it is made true or false by what they believe or feel rather than by how the world is.
