For many years, the system we call capitalism existed in the here and now, and its inherent imperfections were plainly apparent to everybody.
Socialism, on the other hand, was something to aspire to in the future, a thing of shining colors wrapped in the gossamer tissue of a vision. Its imperfections were concealed in the womb of time.
However, many books have been written about the results of economic crises in capitalist societies. Studies have shown that capitalism leads to massive incarcerations, which in turn leads to penal crises, eventually manufacturing a penal administration and intensified repression.
