The scale of the devastation is a human tragedy

Hamas’s assault on Israel reveals the terrorists used extreme violence on innocent civilians. This was not a combat, a military conflict, a state conflict, or a political conflict.

They didn’t just kill — they took their time. They decapitated and burned people while they were still alive. Bodies of elderly civilians had all their fingers and toes cut off. A pregnant woman’s stomach was cut open, and the baby was yanked out.

Women have been raped next to their friends, dead bodies. Several of these rape victims appear to have been later executed. Others were kidnapped to Gaza.

In photographs released online, several women were paraded through the city’s streets, blood gushing between their legs.

They bound families, tortured them, and eventually murdered them — women with no clothes and hands tied to their backs. Families with hands tied to the back with metal wire — parents and children, sitting one against the other, tortured before being burned alive.

In one instance, two piles of 10 children each were tied and burnt to death.

Dismembered bodies with their arms and feet chopped off, beheaded people, a woman whose eyes were shot out.

Some victims were shot and then set on fire; others were strung up with wire cords and condemned to a burning hell.

The charred bodies of an adult and a child were found sitting together, tightly hugging. They were burnt to death like this — cremated alive in their home, clutching one another.

All of the above could further be evidence of Hamas’s intention to spread terror amongst a civilian population deliberately. The firing of thousands of inaccurate rockets into Israel intentionally attacks civilians who fail to distinguish between military objectives and civilians.

The mass killings of Israeli civilians could constitute criminalities against humanity, such as murder…
