This article refers to the Western economy. But I should have been more specific. As you well pointed out, poverty is subjective in nature. Therefore, I should have applied this view to focus on global inequality.
So, it’s imperative to understand the difference in the kind of poverty by where a person lives. Two ways poverty can be measured: absolute poverty or relative poverty. Relative poverty is defined as being unable to live the lifestyle of the average person, say, in the United States and someone living in a poorer nation would be defined as absolute poverty. Absolute poverty is defined as being barely able to afford the basic necessities, such as food.
