Reminds me of Margaret Atwood's, Handmaid Tales, a series I'm currently watching on Hulu. (Excellent, by the way.)
But more important, we studied this novel in college and I still remember the impact it left on me. And that is - the state of our future humanity. The consequences of advancement in technology and the deterioration of the the world as we know it.
But most of all, it's the near zero birth. Hence, a new world order ensued. Young Handmaids were raped monthly for the sake of producing the next generation. Religion was used to make one a believer. There were those who adapted to the new order and were rewarded for it. And those who refuse to "join" were hung from the nearest tree, sort of speak.
Is life imitates art or vice versa? I think both.
