Some wars get more attention than others. And Russia's invasion of Ukraine has seized the public's attention in the West in a way that other recent wars haven’t. The war in Yemen, for instance, or Ethiopia. In the Tigray region of Ethiopia, a struggle that started in 2020 has led to thousands of fatalities and displaced an estimated 2 million people.
Right or wrong, it seems reasonable for any society to care more about geographically closer conflicts, share a social identity, share a language, etc. And let’s not forget about the other issues you’ve raised. Media coverage creates public awareness, and it can strongly impact the world's response. And that’s where we are right now.
